The Train Hacker
From childhood days out by train in southern England, to gap year Interrail adventures around Europe, onto Amtrak in North America, the hill railways and mesmerising rail journeys in India, to riding throughout Japan by Shinkansen, I’ve always loved the thrill of travelling by train. People, travel and scenery the perfect balance.
The Train Hacker was born when I was astonished to discover little known cheap train tickets and rail passes in Britain. I decided to create an online resource dedicated to hacking the system to uncover deals, cheap train tickets and latest offers.
Whether you’re a tourist, wanderer, trainspotter, day-tripper or independent traveller, there’s something for you here on the Train Hacker.
Food Tours Japan
Living in Osaka and travelling widely in Japan has taken me on a wonderful journey around the delights of Japanese food. Washoku is incredibly tasty and has a rich diversity of regional and seasonal flavours.
Exploring Japanese food at a deeper level, I’ve learned it means a lot more than eating food. As UNESCO states: ‘Washoku is a social practice based on a set of skills, knowledge, practice and traditions related to the production, processing, preparation of food’.
I started Food Tours Japan to help people travelling in Japan discover the wonders of washoku and connect them to intimate tours, cooking, making and tasting classes, and reservations to top Michelin star restaurants.
